- causes cancer
- nicotine affects brain and central nervous system
- as addictive as heroin
- nicotine reaches brain in 7-10 seconds
- heart rate goes up
- can release endorphins
- carbon monoxide
- passive intake as bad
- smoking bad for pregnant mother
- smokeless tobacco just as bad
Alcohol
- gateway drug
- damages every organ, most in liver/brain
- alcohol broken down in live at 1 drink/hour
- rest goes to blood, brain
- DUI most amount of deaths in teens
- 1/2 of suicides, homicides, drowning
- leads to sex
- males break down alcohol better, size matters
Marijuana
- cannabis, THC
- grows in Mediterranean climate
- looks like dirt/parsley
- more than 400 chemicals
- hash is made from resin, most concentrated
- psychological dependency
- roaches can be resmoked
- 4x worse than cigarettes
- heart beats 1.5x faster
- damaged immune systems, hurts births
- reduced indoor activities, irritability, paranoia, loss of ambition
Cocaine
- illegal
- apathy, irritability, depression, nosebleeds
- cocoa plant, Andes mountains
- white powder; smoke, snorted, injected
- high then withdrawal
- dilated pupils, high blood rate
- heart attacks, convulsions, seizures
- crack is most addictive, to brain 8 to 15 seconds
Steroids
- illegal, except when prescribed
- loss of hair, liver cancer, shrunken testicles, impotency, heart attacks, strokes
- injected or orally
- anabolic steroids build muscle but not tendons or ligaments
- more aggressive
Heroine
- most dangerous and most abused
- codium, morphine, heroine are narcotics, which are painkillers, which are from opium
